BLOOM is a large open-access multilingual language model trained by the BigScience collaborative research workshop with contributions from hundreds of researchers across dozens of institutions. Supporting 46 natural languages and 13 programming languages, BLOOM was designed to be a truly multilingual model accessible to researchers worldwide. At 176 billion parameters, it represented one of the largest open models available at its release. Multilingual NLP researchers, developers building non-English AI applications, and advocates for equitable AI access use BLOOM as a foundation for research and applications.
